Breckinridge is owned by members of the Wood family of Virginia Beach. Over the last four decades, the family has been responsible for a large portion of development in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, having founded William E. Wood in 1972 and eventually making it the number one real estate company in the region. The family also developed numerous commercial and residential sites over this period, and is still actively engaged in the management of the William E. Wood and William B. Wood companies.

Breckinridge is a long-standing Wood family name. The choice to name the property as such is a tribute to the legacy of former family members, including William Breckinridge (“Breck”) Wood, who had initially undertaken the development of the property years before passing in 2006. The site plan, architectural guidelines, and residential product mix have been set to the high standards that we know Breck would have wanted to see at Breckinridge.

Bonaventure Realty Group was hired by the property owner to assist with the site design and initial development plans. Bonaventure is a development and asset management firm working in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern US. The most recent local development was The Cascades, a 300,000 square foot mixed-use property. In summer of 2011, Bonaventure will break ground in Chesapeake at Aura at Towne Place, a 215-unit property next to an existing 78,000 square foot specialty retail development and a Hyatt Place hotel. Their next project is Promenade Pointe, 183 units in Norfolk off Tidewater Drive. Bonaventure is firmly committed to the region, managing and owning approximately 2,000 multifamily units in the region already.
