Breckinridge at Western Branch is a community-focused and environmentally responsible new development, adding to the Portsmouth Boulevard corridor of Western Branch in Chesapeake, VA.  Breckinridge is a vibrant planned community on 482 acres which will combine a grocery anchored retail shopping center with a variety of housing choices. Designed to be a multi-generational community with a broad spectrum of different housing types, Breckinridge will accommodate families, young professionals, and seniors.

Every detail of the project, from the Village Craftsman-style architecture to the common green spaces and thoughtful incorporation of the area’s natural water features, will reflect a sense of civic pride and traditional neighborhood values.

The commercial component of Breckinridge will be on 38 acres fronting on Portsmouth Boulevard. Upon completion, we anticipate a balanced mix of retail, to include a grocery anchor, lifestyle and convenience tenants, office buildings, and a hotel.

The community will consist of approximately 1,500 residential homes and a variety of commercial opportunities comprised of retail establishments and flex commercial space for new businesses. The property extends across 480 acres, of which more than 250 acres will be preserved in its natural state.

Breckinridge will offer a variety of homes for sale including single family detached, townhomes and condominiums. The single family lots will range from 5,000 SF to 15,000 SF. A mixture of housing types and forms will provide the residents with individual character amongst the tight-knit community. For additional information on the variety of housing types, click here.

In addition to the residential homes for sale, Breckinridge will offer multifamily homes for rent. These homes will provide an upscale and vibrant living experience for residents, while integrating with the surrounding community. The multifamily communities will feature upscale amenities, including a resort-style swimming pool with outdoor lounge areas, clubhouse with theatre room, and fitness facility with state-of-the-art equipment.

One of the main goals the owner has is to incorporate the wetland features into the living & community experience at Breckinridge, while preserving the wetlands as a haven for wildlife, vegetation, and observation. The residents will have access to many areas of the community through an extensive walking trail system that will interconnect all areas of the community. This preservation will result in a sustainable community living experience for years to come.

At Breckinridge, a Village Craftsman aesthetic principal will be reflected throughout material selection, bracketing and detailing. These are encouraged to emphasize originality of form and visibility of handicraft. The pallet of natural materials and selections of color create a patchwork quilt of forms and facades integrating the villages. Trellis structures and canopies will be used to soften the forms and enrich the spaces between the individual properties. Attention to detail is paramount for structures, amenities, signage and landscape.

Breckinridge is a long-standing Wood family name. The choice to name the property as such is a tribute to the legacy of former family members, including William Breckinridge (“Breck”) Wood, who had initially undertaken the development of the property years before passing in 2006. The site plan, architectural guidelines, and residential product mix have been set to the high standards that we know Breck would have wanted to see at Breckinridge.
